War Memorial Hospital is located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. This Upper Peninsula community is the 3rd oldest city in the United States. With a population of 17,500, Sault Ste. Marie is an area that continues to grow and thrive. Located just across the International Bridge is Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario with a population of 85,000. The twin Saults offer extensive opportunities for shopping, cultural events and tremendous recreational activities. The world famous Soo Locks are a huge summer attraction and bring thousands of tourists to the Sault every summer. Housing is very affordable in the Sault. Whether you are looking for something big, small, out of town, in the city or on the water, you will find something that fits your needs.

Schools
Sault Ste. Marie is also home to Lake Superior State University, a public institution with an enrollment of 3,000 students. The public school system is very strong and Washington Elementary was the first school in the Upper Peninsula to be awarded “Blue Ribbon Exemplary School” status. Access to both public and parochial elementary schools is available. Extracurricular activities are extensive and can meet the needs of the majority of kids.

Recreation
Sault Ste. Marie and the Upper Peninsula offer tremendous recreational opportunities year round. You won’t find a better location in the summer and fall, whether you are interested in golf, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, time at the beaches or water sports. The Sault is within 45 minutes of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron and just 10 minutes from Lake Superior. Winter brings even more opportunities with both downhill and cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, snowmobiling and sledding/tubing. Whatever your interest, if you like to be outdoors, you will be satisfied.

Entertainment
NCAA and high school sports are always on the schedule and many visitors come to check out our two casinos; Kewadin and Bay Mills. Entertainers such as Keith Urban, Randy Travis, KISS and Poison have all taken the stage. Lake Superior State University has opened a new Fine Arts Center which offers orchestra, dance and comedy performances along with various speakers. The Agawa Canyon Train tour is a very popular attraction in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The I-500 Snowmobile race is the largest in the United States and takes place in February.
