News & Notes: Our 2015 Cancer Fundraising Focus
WMH has selected improving cancer care as our main fundraising focus during 2015. As you can see on our Improving Cancer Care main page, this involves expanding the department, increasing the capacity of our infusion/chemotherapy services, and consolidating cancer care under one roof at WMH.
On this page, we will update you on the campaign, upcoming events, and other items of interest related to our efforts to treat and assist those battling cancer in our community.
2015 Golf Outing was a HUGE success!
In September, we raised a record $55,000 for the oncology department expansion. The morning started off at Wild Bluff Golf Course in Brimley with a little bit of rain, but turned into a great day for everyone and wrapped up with a Mexican-fiesta themed dinner. Not only did Dr. Belisario Arango (our oncologist) pick up clubs for the first time to thank supporters, he also shared heartfelt remarks about the new unit and what it will mean for cancer patients in the EUP and for his Oncology/Hematology team. Thank you to everyone who particpated and to the planning committee – Sherri Pavloski, Mandy Synett, Carla Cryderman, Nichole Laabs and David Jahn.
Are you ready for some football?
Tackle Cancer is coming to Van Citters Field on Friday, Oct. 23. The WMH Oncology department will join forces with the Sault High Blue Devils Football for a cancer-awareness event and some great football against Manton Varsity.
Our oncologist, Dr. Arango, and his staff will be on hand to share information and help honor area cancer survivors during the game's half-time program.
As part of our fundraising efforts, you are invited to purchase a t-shirt, sweatshirt, or hoodie and proceeds will come back to the Cancer Care Center Expansion. Just click on the PDF link below for the form and further ordering information.
Kick-off is at 7pm. We hope you'll turn out and help us Tackle Cancer and honor survivors!
Put your support on the wall
It's not too late to purchase a tile to honor a loved one who has battled or survived cancer and help our Cancer Care Center project in the process. Like the example shown here, each is individually designed in a way that will be meaningful to the donor.
With a $250 gift, you may personalize a six-inch tile in honor of someone, in memory of a loved one, or in support of all Eastern U.P. cancer patients. The opportunity is available to individuals and businesses.
The personalized ceramic tiles will be on display in the waiting area of the oncology unit, which will be located on the 2nd floor of the Medical Office building. For more information about purchasing a tile or the oncology department expansion, please contact Teresa Armstrong at (906) 635-4351.
